Treatment & Conditions

Can osteopathic care treat migraines or tension headaches?

Osteopathy may help reduce contributing muscle tension, joint stiffness, and postural strain that can play a role in headaches. Your practitioner will assess your individual presentation and tailor treatment to what feels safe and comfortable for you.

What is an osteopathic treatment, and what does it involve?

Osteopathy uses a mix of hands-on techniques to reduce tension, improve mobility, and support better overall function. Depending on what suits your body, your practitioner may use gentle indirect methods, more direct techniques, or a combination of both.

Why do joints sometimes “click” or “pop” during treatment?

A clicking sound can occur during certain direct techniques and is simply gas releasing from within the joint. It’s harmless, optional, and not required for treatment to be effective.

Is osteopathic care helpful for people with long-term pain or recurring issues?

Many people with ongoing or recurrent pain find osteopathic care supportive. Treatment focuses on improving movement, easing tension, and giving you practical strategies to manage your symptoms over time.

Are there osteopathic techniques for sports-related aches, strains, or training load issues?

Yes. Osteopaths commonly support people with sport-related tension, stiffness, or mobility concerns. Treatment is always tailored to your sport, stage of recovery, and goals.

Can osteopathy support recovery post-surgery or during rehabilitation?

In many cases, yes. Osteopathic care can safely complement rehab by restoring joint mobility, reducing pain and supporting overall healing. We always coordinate care with your healthcare provider when needed.

What to Expect / Safety

Is osteopathic treatment safe during pregnancy?

Yes. Osteopathy is frequently used during pregnancy, and techniques can be adapted at every stage. We focus on gentle, supportive care designed to keep you comfortable and safe.

Is osteopathy safe if I have osteoporosis, arthritis, or other medical conditions?

Osteopaths are trained to modify techniques for people with complex or sensitive health conditions. Your medical history is always reviewed first so treatment is safe and suitable for you.

How quickly might I feel improvement, and how many sessions will I need?

Everyone responds differently. Some people notice changes early, while others progress gradually across several sessions. Your osteopath will discuss a plan based on your symptoms, lifestyle, and goals.

Are there risks or side effects with osteopathic treatment?

Osteopathy is generally very safe. The most common effects are mild, temporary soreness or fatigue, similar to what you might feel after gentle exercise.

What happens if osteopathy doesn’t help my condition?

If you’re not improving as expected, we’ll discuss next steps and can refer you to another trusted healthcare provider. Your wellbeing always comes first.

Appointments / Payments / Insurance

Do you offer health fund rebates, Medicare rebates, and what payment methods are available?

Yes. We offer on-the-spot health fund rebates through HICAPS, and most private health insurers provide cover for osteopathy. The exact amount you can claim depends on your fund and level of cover.

Osteopathy can also be subsidised through a Medicare Chronic Disease Management (CDM) plan. This requires a referral from your GP and provides up to five subsidised visits per calendar year. You’ll pay the standard consultation fee at your appointment, and the Medicare rebate is processed directly back to your nominated bank account.

We accept EFTPOS, debit and credit card payments, and can help with any questions about claiming or rebates at the time of your visit.

Can I walk in or do I need an appointment?

Appointments are recommended so we can give you the best availability. However, we do our best to accommodate walk-ins when the schedule allows.

What is your cancellation policy?

We kindly ask for at least 24 hours’ notice for cancellations or rescheduling. This allows us to serve other patients who may be waiting for an appointment.

How long are appointments?

Your first visit usually lasts up to 60 minutes, including consultation and exam. Follow-up visits are shorter at up to 30 minutes.

What payment options do you offer?

We accept card, cash, and on-the-spot private health rebates. If you need help with payment arrangements, please just ask.

Other Common Questions

Do I need a referral from a medical doctor to see an osteopath?

No. You can book directly without a referral. If your insurer requires one, we’ll help you understand what’s needed.

Can I combine osteopathy with massage, physiotherapy, or other therapies?

Yes. Many people benefit from a combined approach. We’re happy to work alongside other practitioners to support your care.

What can I do between sessions to support my progress?

Your osteopath will provide simple, personalised exercises or movement strategies to help you feel more comfortable and maintain progress at home.

Are there things I should avoid after treatment?

Your osteopath will guide you, but most people can continue their normal activities. Occasionally, avoiding very intense exercise for a short period may be recommended.

What if I’m unsure whether osteopathy is right for me?

You’re welcome to contact us with any questions. We’re always happy to talk you through what to expect and help you decide whether osteopathy suits your needs.
